In the Dolomites
We first attended the very special 60th Anniversary Meeting of the Societa Amatori Bracco Italiano (SABI, the 'Bracco Italiano Connoisseurs Society' of Italy), where a seminar was given informally in the grounds of the President's architecturally amazing 1000 year-old castle.
As his guests, in the evening, we were very privileged, along with our Dutch friends, to have been among the people invited to a lavish celebration dinner in his castle where every effort was made to make us welcome and at home- it was an experience never to forget.
The next day we competed in the Italian KC-regulated specialist breed championship show- the first UK registered bracchi to ever compete in the breed's homeland, never mind at a single breed event. Most of the major Italian kennels were present. The breed specialist judge was an ex-President of SABI who has been involved in the breed for many decades. . .
Giada our young female competed in Intermediate Bitch and was graded VERY GOOD and even placed 3rd! There was a super appraisal for her with which we were very pleased.Cornelius our male was also received with high praise indeed, his critique was truly outstanding and he was graded EXCELLENT, & in a very large entry in Open Dog!
Both dogs were praised as having the typical features the bracco should have, and in particular both were judged to be very strong in the areas in which, it was discussed, the breed as a whole needs more focus from breeders if they wish to preserve the bracco as it should be.
