5 Months Old & Growing up fast

Latest NewsPosted by Braccari Admin Wed, May 05, 2010 01:46AM

Well, we've enjoyed a few much-needed quiet months away from the 'scene', so we thought a few photos of Balthazar should be shared, now that he has hit the grand old age of 5 months...

                                                              Braccari Aloysius Volator

We & particularly his sire Bianco's owners in Italy are really very pleased indeed with him. He has his parents' sweet nature by the bucketload, a real delight to be around. We are very excited!

We also count our blessings that we have the privilege of seeing his physical heritage - the very special dogs behind him - becoming so clearly apparent as he develops.

In other words, he is so far all we hoped for from this particular pedigree combination- and more smiley

Promising starts

Latest NewsPosted by Braccari Admin Fri, January 08, 2010 04:00PM

2010 is already promising to be so exciting. Little Balthus (you did't think Balthazar was his call name surely? smiley) turned 6 weeks old last Tuesday, & we have to report he is doing extremely well & shaping up beautifully. We've uploaded a few shots from 6-7 days ago to the web site: www.braccari.com Just click on the photo there to see the rest.

Mum Giada is still very much the doting parent, what a stoic she is, never losing her patience despite some very sharp teeth being exercised in her direction with increasing frequency.

We have already made some exciting plans for our return to Italy, by invitations, & visits across other parts of Europe to Bracco friends old & new are also springing up all over our calendar. 2010 promises to be another great year for indulging our grand passion for this most adorable of breeds with like-minded people smiley

A beautiful Boy for us

Latest NewsPosted by Braccari Admin Wed, November 25, 2009 09:37PM

Yesterday, Giada whelped only 1 -very special- puppy (so much for reliable 4-week-in scans!!), and we now have a beautiful (BIG) boy as a result! He weighed in at an impressive 573g. We and sire Bianco's owners over in Italy are truly delighted with him and with Giada. Took a few non-intrusive mobile phone snaps at birth, but the quality should improve with the 'proper' camera henceforth!

Thanks to everyone for your help, advice and support, and your congratulations smiley Giada is doing really well after an easy delivery with no complications whatsoever, and is proving to be a doting mother.

Giada is prepared

Latest NewsPosted by Braccari Admin Tue, November 24, 2009 10:02AM

Well, Giada's time seems to be almost upon us, how quickly the time has gone since we were in Italy for the mating. She has a nice solid wood enclosure, and seems to be right at home in one of the quieter rooms in the house (ie one we rarely use- no, this room's TV will not be on at any time smiley). Later today we will be placing her lamp.

Over the coming weeks we will have some regular updates, probably here on the blog.

Let's hope she has a trouble-free delivery smiley

A Unique Place in World Bracco History

Latest NewsPosted by Braccari Admin Sat, October 31, 2009 05:28AM

Our Cornelius' successes in international championship shows across Europe mean he can have the prestigious title:

                                                           INTERNATIONAL SHOW CHAMPION

He actually qualified for the title between 2006-8. Subject to final confirmation from the FCI in Brussels, this means he is the world's first ever - & currently only- UK (bred & owned) Bracco to be a World Canine Organisation International Show Champion, his full moniker becoming: INT SH CH Gunstrux Ferdinand for Braccari BW08 smiley Considering the positive appraisals he has had from so many different breed specialist judges across Europe, he thoroughly deserves it, & we thank each & every one of them.

A honeymoon to remember

Latest NewsPosted by Braccari Admin Wed, September 30, 2009 06:03PM

We are delighted to announce that Giada & Bianco were mated in Italy in September 2009. A wonderful time was had with Nadia & Salvatore at kennel Del Mucrone in Piedmont-as usual . . . . .. . . . . . . . .smileysmileysmileysmileysmileysmileysmileysmileysmileysmiley

My, was it hot too!

The food was DELICIOUS amidst all the romancing going on- wonderful guinea fowl (try saying it again Nadia & Salva smiley hehe), cheeses, cod etc! Look at these freshly picked beauties for example:

We have added a page to our website detailing more about breathtaking sire Bianco- such a wonderful character as always- which we wanted to share a while ago but didn't get round to, along with some simply stunning photographs of some of his very distinguished forebears and a bit of history behind the pedigree he proudly bears smiley You can find it here: http://www.braccari.com/Background%20sire%20Del%20Mucrone.htm

Well bye for now: now we play the waiting game smiley Giada is very content and every effort will be made to keep her that way

CLA Game Fair 2009, England

Latest NewsPosted by Braccari Admin Mon, July 27, 2009 04:03PM
CLA GAME FAIR 2009, England

It was a really nice day at England's biggest country living fair, where we enjoyed some gundog competitions & working tests, & some very famous Dutch models fell in love with Lily & Giada!

Giada was also examined by an official British Veterinary Association/Kennel Club Eye Examination specialist vet here, and was certificated 100% free of hereditary eye disease, with "no ocular defects" at all- in fact, he said if it was possible to also be graded, she would get a 10/10 for the condition of her eyes. It was great news.

France- National Champ Dog Show

Latest NewsPosted by Braccari Admin Sat, July 11, 2009 07:23PM
Having moved on to France via Switzerland from Italy, we next competed at:

The 88th National Championship Dog Show CAC-Douai, France. . .with Bracco breed classes, under a specialist international Gundog Group judge.

Cornelius won:

Best Open Dog

BEST DOG

RESERVE BEST OF BREED

French CHAMPION ticket (CAC)

Giada won:

Best Open Bitch

BEST BITCH

BEST OF BREED

French CHAMPION ticket (CAC)

AND . . . . . . .. .

...went on to WIN the Group (Group 7, Continental Pointing Dogs). . .then she represented all these gundog breeds in the Best In Show final having beaten over 1560 dogs.

This means yet another breed record by our youngster: she is the first ever solely Uk owned & campaigned Bracco to win a GROUP 1st at National Championship Level, in the UK or anywhere else.

What a great day for both dogs! smiley

The prospective bridegroom. . .

Latest NewsPosted by Braccari Admin Wed, July 08, 2009 10:00PM

After quite a few grappas, it's 'curtain-hair' for me again..

After already spending 90% of our time here on 'Bracco business', we spent much of yesterday thoroughly enjoying visting friends Nadia & Salvatore of the renowned Del Mucrone kennel. We had such a wonderful time, & the Bracco & Spinone were discussed at great length with a rare passion, such a valuable experience not to be forgotten, & one we will be sharing again shortly -& many times again we are sure.

ITALIAN CHAMPION (Working & Conformation) BIANCO DEL MUCRONE

The Del Mucrone dogs are a credit to their expert select breeding & demonstrate how careful & responsible planning really can preserve the ancient Italian Bracco for us all in the future.

Ciao 3!!!

Latest NewsPosted by Braccari Admin Sun, July 05, 2009 11:08PM
After those groundbreaking successes at the Alba show, we competed next at the:

5 July, 19th National Championship Dog Show, CAC-Cuneo, Piedmont, Italy

Cornelius:

1st Open Dog

BEST DOG

RESERVE BEST OF BREED

FCI/ENCI Grade: EXCELLENT

Giada:

1st Intermediate Bitch

RESERVE BEST BITCH

FCI/ENCI Grade: EXCELLENT

In only a week and a half, the dogs have been under three Italian breed specialists and have garnered, 2BDs,2RBOBs,2RBBs, 5 EXCELLENT & 1 VERY GOOD grades (the grades are very important here in Italy with Italian breeds). Interestingly, their 6 critiques so far have all focused on exactly the same strengths they each have that make them correctly typical of the breed (as these judges have written)- we couldn't be more delighted. Not just with their acceptance here but with the fact that the Italian judges are looking for specific high quality features in their beloved Bracco and are very happy to be finding them in both our dogs. A great success.

In the Dolomites

We first attended the very special 60th Anniversary Meeting of the Societa Amatori Bracco Italiano (SABI, the 'Bracco Italiano Connoisseurs Society' of Italy), where a seminar was given informally in the grounds of the President's architecturally amazing 1000 year-old castle.

As his guests, in the evening, we were very privileged, along with our Dutch friends, to have been among the people invited to a lavish celebration dinner in his castle where every effort was made to make us welcome and at home- it was an experience never to forget.

The next day we competed in the Italian KC-regulated specialist breed championship show- the first UK registered bracchi to ever compete in the breed's homeland, never mind at a single breed event. Most of the major Italian kennels were present. The breed specialist judge was an ex-President of SABI who has been involved in the breed for many decades. . .

Giada our young female competed in Intermediate Bitch and was graded VERY GOOD and even placed 3rd! There was a super appraisal for her with which we were very pleased.

Cornelius our male was also received with high praise indeed, his critique was truly outstanding and he was graded EXCELLENT, & in a very large entry in Open Dog!

Both dogs were praised as having the typical features the bracco should have, and in particular both were judged to be very strong in the areas in which, it was discussed, the breed as a whole needs more focus from breeders if they wish to preserve the bracco as it should be.

Return to Italy

Latest NewsPosted by Braccari Admin Sun, June 14, 2009 05:52PM
Not so long after our return from Ireland, very happy with the success of the dogs at the European Winner Championship Dog Show, we are already again drowning in excess laundry and suitcases in preparation for our return to Italy very shortly. smiley

We have a full itinerary planned lasting several weeks, and for the first time ever in the breed's UK history, we are proud to announce that UK registered Bracchi - our own dear Cornelius & Giada - will be competing in Italy at various venues.

We will also be campaigning the dogs in another European country whilst away.

Exciting times! smiley

Well, the end had to come, and we left Ireland on Monday afternoon, blessed with a faultless journey on a fast catamaran in scorching heat and clear blue skies, which afforded us the perfect end to a lovely holiday with close friends.

Day 4, Ireland

Latest NewsPosted by Braccari Admin Sun, May 31, 2009 01:38AM

After exploring some more of County Cavan's wonderful lake and forest areas, we and our friends from the Di Ala D'Oro kennel met up with some local friends for some field work with the Bracchi- Cornelius (above) and Giada (below) performed very well on the moorlands which range over the highest peaks of this part of Ireland.

We arrive in Ireland!

Latest NewsPosted by Braccari Admin Fri, May 29, 2009 01:09PM

With our wonderful friends from the Di Ala D'Oro kennel in The Netherlands, we finally arrived- from London- on Wednesday in Ireland! We have hired a beautiful boathouse built over Lake Sheelin,  in the lake county of Cavan, for a restful but exploratory break in preparation for us all attending the European Dog Show next week.

We have already explored the lake on our own motorised boat (see picture above)- an experience full of much laughter and mishaps- and have taken the Bracchi to a Nature Reserve which is only a few meters from our door.

The dogs are loving it, there are extensive grounds belonging to the boathouse, so they spend their time playing and resting in the lovely sunshine with which we have been blessed since arrival.

This afternoon we are having a barbecue on one of the boathouse balconies overlooking the lake, and later we will take the dogs to a nearby 800-acre World Heritage forest site for a long , long walk!

This is a truly magical place.
